The charm of authenticity: Discover the wooden idiophone

The log drum, also called a “slit drum” is an idiophone usually carved from wood or constructed with a resonant wooden box. It features wooden tongues on its surface that can be struck to produce a simple melody.

Our instrument is a “vintage” version of the most common log drum available in commerce. It had been in use for many years before we were able to acquire it. Some of the tongues were not perfectly in tune, and there was a small crack on one of them, causing the instrument to produce a “sizzling” sound on strong beats. However, we found its sound lovely and authentic, and we hope you will enjoy its unique charm too!
